Twin Raven is Lee Byrne, a multi-instrumentalist and electronic music producer from Dublin, Ireland. Inspired by the synth-based movie soundtracks of the 80s as well as goth, synthpop and metal. Twin Raven’s music combines these styles to create lush instrumental electronic compositions that call back to classic sci-fi and horror sounds while incorporating spooky ambience, groove beats and biting guitar riffs. Analogue synth themes weave throughout ever evolving tracks mixed with sampled electronic beats that are programmed in the style of a live drummer as much as a drum machine. Vocal synth samples and big pads provide body and depth.

Twin Raven began as a Covid project and means to pass the time during rolling lockdowns. Starting out with a Logic Pro subscription, a midi controller and some stock VSTs, a self-titled album of early tracks was created and released in the summer of 2021. Following from this release, work started immediately on a second album.

Equipped with a bolstered hardware set-up, a higher level of knowledge of synthesis and a much clearer idea of what the Twin Raven sound would become, the goal was to create a piece of work that was more considered, refined and had a higher level of production. Work on the album ran from August 2021 – April 2022. The result was 13 new tracks, nine of which would be selected to form the album.

Prior to starting Twin Raven, Lee was the guitarist for celestial grunge rockers Nibiru (Holy Roar/Carry the Weight Records) and melodic hardcore band Famine (Hurry Up Records). Both bands had several releases and toured Europe extensively before eventually breaking up due to the usual reasons of work and members moving away. Twin Raven marks a reconnection with music and a new challenge after a few years away from the scene.
